Our Frequently Asked Questions

Well, what most people don't know is that I have a daughter named Aspen. She has been my inspiration for many of my natural skincare creations and soaps. My daughter is growing up so fast now, but she is our number one fan, she visits our shop frequently to smell all the soaps and names a new favorite each time. I have named my company after her.

Sodium hydroxide is the technical name for Lye, they are one and the same.

The short answer about our soap containing lye is yes, and no. Let's break it down a bit more. If you had high school chemistry, you may remember that when you mix a base with an acid, you form a neutral. This is exactly what happens in the soap making process. The base (lye) mixes with the acid (oil or fat) to form a neutral (the soap). Once this reaction takes place you are left with soap that contains no lye. Yes we use lye to make our soaps, but no lye remains in the finished product.

We are located in Clearwater, Florida

Yes, all of our products are made and packaged in Clearwater, Florida.

Our natural handmade soaps are made in small batches using the cold process method. They provide great benefits for your skin and body due to our extremely high quality organic oils, butters, herbs and botanicals that feed and nourish the skin.

On the other hand, most commercial soaps contain skin irritants and other ingredients that can potentially be harmful to your skin. In addition, you shouldn't need a chemistry degree to understand what's in your soap.

Why do most commercial soaps contain harmful chemicals? Well, the manufacturers have removed most of the 'good' stuff that occurs in the soap making process (like the naturally occurring glycerin that moisturized the skin) and have replaced it with synthetic lathering agents and harsh chemicals. These cheap, plentiful detergent bars are not only bad for your skin, but they're also bad for the environment too.

The old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ tends to ring true when it comes to soap – the cheaper the bar, the lower the quality, generally speaking.

At Aspen Kay Naturals our handcrafted natural soaps are made the old fashion way using the cold process method. All of our soaps are made in small batches with organic and certified sustainable palm oil, organic unrefined Shea butter, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic Sunflower oil and organic castor bean oil.

Our soaps are naturally colored using plants, herbs, clays and natural mineral pigments. Our entire soap making process is done by hand from start to finish.

All of our soaps are handmade by our small team of experienced artisan soap makers.
